Beth Tanis is a partner in King & Spalding’s Business Litigation Practice Group and is the co-leader of the firm’s Professional Liability litigation initiative. Ms. Tanis has extensive trial and arbitration experience, and focuses her practice on general litigation matters, with an emphasis on class actions; securities litigation; litigation involving public accounting firms, in which she has represented all of the Big Four accounting firms; and litigation involving law firms and other professional services providers.
Ms. Tanis is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. She is also Chair of the Business Litigation Committee of the Business Section of the State Bar of Georgia; Chair of the Board of Directors of Families First, Inc.; Treasurer, Chair of the Finance Committee and member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of Georgia Appleseed; on the Board of Visitors of the Georgia State University College of Law; a past president of the Bleckley Inn of Court; President of the ACLU Foundation of Georgia; on the Board of Trustees of The Howard School. At the request of the Georgia Supreme Court, she serves as a Special Master in attorney disciplinary proceedings.
Ms. Tanis is ranked as one of The Best Lawyers in America (2003-2011) and recently recognized by the magazine for her “Bet-the-Company” litigation expertise in 2009. In 2007-2010, she was recognized in Chambers USA America’s Leading Business Lawyers. Atlanta magazine named her as one of Georgia’s Top 100 Lawyers in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2010 and as one of Georgia’s Top 50 Female Lawyers in 2004 through 2010. Before joining King & Spalding, Ms. Tanis was with the Sutherland law firm following four years of practice in Chicago. She graduated first in her class, earning a J.D., with highest honors, from Loyola University of Chicago School of Law.
