Carolyn Hilgers joined King & Spalding as head of the paralegal services department in August 2003.  She is responsible for the high level supervision and direction of paralegal services at King & Spalding firm wide.  She is primarily responsible for the functions associated with staffing, utilization, productivity and performance of the firm’s specialists, paralegals, billable practice support and project assistants.

Ms. Hilgers has extensive legal experience in paralegal management and project coordination at long-standing mid-size and large firms.  Prior to joining King & Spalding, she was head of paralegal services at the southeastern firm of Burr & Forman.  Previously, she was a working coordinator in the areas of labor, employment, and litigation at the Denver-based law firm of Rothgerber, Johnson and Lyons.

Ms. Hilgers is a member of the International Paralegal Management Association (IPMA), serving as past president, past chairperson and a member of the Board of Directors from 1996 to 2008.  She speaks regularly at annual conferences on topics related to profitability, meeting skills, consensus building, round table discussions, paralegal training and development and new manager skills.  Ms. Hilgers has been a featured author in Paralegal Management and Legal Assistant Today.  She serves on advisory boards for American Bar Association (ABA) approved paralegal programs at the university level, and paralegal division for state bars.

Ms. Hilgers received her B.S., magna cum laude, in Business Administration and Marketing from Regis University in Denver, Colorado.  She received ABA Paralegal Certification, with high honors, from the Denver Paralegal Institute.
