Amy Frey is an associate in King & Spalding’s Litigation Practice Group, where she specializes in international arbitration, public international law, and human rights law. Ms. Frey concentrates her practice on international litigation and arbitration matters, including proceedings under the ICSID, ICC, and UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules. She has represented investors in claims against the Governments of Algeria, Argentina, Bangladesh, Czech Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, Kazakhstan, Romania, and Venezuela. She has extensive experience in requests for interim, injunctive relief and in annulment proceedings.
In addition to her international arbitration practice, Ms. Frey is committed to public interest law and pro bono projects, especially in areas of immigration law. She has handled cases involving domestic violence, child abuse, asylum, juvenile immigrant status, and sex-trafficking. She has also assisted in constitutional challenge to lethal injection in Texas. She has authored legal opinions for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Liberia and the Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel. She has represented Holocaust survivors seeking reparations from Germany and Burmese refugees seeking resettlement in the United States.
Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Frey worked with Harvard Law School’s Human Rights Project. During law school, she was an editor of the Tulane Journal of International and Comparative Law.
Recent Experience
- Representing a U.S. gas compression company in a bilateral investment treaty dispute against a South American State;
- Representing an Indian company in ICC proceedings involving intellectual property disputes;
- Representing UAE investors in bilateral investment treaty disputes involving land development against the Arab Republic of Egypt;
- Representing a Swedish food and beverage company in an ICSID arbitration against an Eastern European State for breach of a BIT, including challenges to European Union law;
- Representing a U.S. energy company in an ICSID arbitration against a South American State for the unilateral modification of the participation formula in an oil and gas contract;
- Representing a major U.S. energy company in a dispute with a South American State involving denial of justice by the local court system;
- Representing a water company in annulment proceedings challenging an award against Argentina;
- Representing a Dutch company in a BIT dispute against Algeria; and
- Advising members of an energy consortium on potential breach of contract claims.
