Geneva is home to the World Trade Organization (“WTO”) and numerous other international and regional organizations. The opening of King & Spalding’s Geneva office in 2010 represented a significant expansion of the firm’s globally-recognized international trade and WTO practice. Leveraging off its location and its professionals’ wealth of experiences, the Geneva office has built upon the practice’s core strengths.

The International Trade Group adds value to international business by making the international treaty system work for our clients. We utilize the full range of international trade and investment disciplines to support commercial success – from negotiations on market access and tariff reductions to dispute settlement, as needed.

The Geneva office advises sovereign and industry clients on securing their trade and investment objectives. Our lawyers advise clients in WTO dispute settlement proceedings and on other matters involving WTO law, such as accession negotiations, multilateral trade negotiations, implementation of WTO commitments, and market access strategies for goods and services. Equally, the Geneva office works on matters pertaining to the rest of the international trade sphere, including international trade and investment advice on bilateral and regional agreements; trade remedy proceedings; restructuring of domestic trade authorities and reviewing domestic legislation; trade-related aspects of intellectual property; trade-related aspects of climate change; energy-related trade policy issues; and other trade and investment policy and regulatory matters.

Our lawyers have extensive experience working for clients from every corner of the globe. They gained their expertise from working in domestic, European, and international legal practices; various divisions of the WTO and other international institutions; government ministries; and industry associations. These lawyers maintain a broad perspective on commercial considerations, while also being sensitive to clients’ individual needs. The firm’s international trade and WTO practice, and its lawyers, have been consistently recognized by Chambers Global, Chambers Europe, Chambers USA, Best Lawyers, Who’s Who Legal, Legal 500 Switzerland, Legal 500 USA, and Law360.
