Preparing to Interview

The partners, counsel, associates and recruiting professionals you will meet take pride in the firm. They will expect that you have taken the time to find out as much as possible about King & Spalding, the particular office and practice areas you are interested in, and the individual lawyers with whom you will be interviewing.

Our recruiting professionals make a special effort to arrange for you to meet with lawyers who can address your particular areas of interest. Generally, due to the inherent scheduling uncertainties of our client-service oriented work environment, the recruiting professionals will know with whom they expect you to interview on the afternoon of the day before your interview. It is a good idea to confirm who you will be meeting in advance in case there are any changes.

We hope you find our website and recruiting professionals to be excellent resources as you prepare for your interview.

Lateral Interviews

Most practice groups conduct initial screening interviews with an associate and a partner. This usually takes about an hour. During the next round, candidates will spend a couple of hours and meet more partners, counsel and associates from the practice group or from related practices. At the discretion of the partners, a third round may be scheduled. More senior lawyers may be asked to interview in other offices with members of their potential new practice group.

Travel

We will arrange travel and hotel accommodations related to the office interviews for out-of-town candidates. A member of the recruiting team will provide additional information on what expenses are appropriate to submit for reimbursement.

Offers

Offers are extended contingent upon the successful completion of our conflicts procedures, reference checks and background check. Candidates with open offers are encouraged to speak further with lawyers they have already met and meet additional lawyers during their decision making process. Generally, we expect to learn whether a candidate accepts our offer within two weeks.
