Scott Kolassa is an associate in the Intellectual Property Practice Group in King & Spalding’s New York office. Mr. Kolassa’s practice focuses on intellectual property matters with an emphasis on patent litigation. His patent litigation experience spans a wide array of technologies, primarily in the electrical and computer arts, including networking and data communications, computer hardware and software, video processing, fiber-optic transmissions and E-commerce.
Prior to attending law school, Mr. Kolassa spent one year designing telecommunications software and more than four years designing automotive safety electronics and software. He is a named inventor on five patents relating to automotive safety electronics.
Mr. Kolassa earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering with High Distinction from the University of Michigan-Dearborn and a J.D. with Honors from Chicago-Kent College of Law. During law school, he was a judicial extern to the Honorable Amy J. St. Eve in the Northern District of Illinois. He served as vice-president of the Chicago-Kent Intellectual Property Law Society for two terms and was a Chicago Intellectual Property Colloquium Fellow. He was a merit scholarship recipient, competed in regional and national rounds of the Giles Sutherland Rich Memorial Moot Court Competition, and received CALI awards for obtaining the highest grade in six classes.
Mr. Kolassa practiced at Kenyon & Kenyon LLP and Goodwin Procter LLP before joining King & Spalding in November of 2007.
Mr. Kolassa is admitted to practice in New York and the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York and the Eastern District of Texas. He is also a registered patent attorney with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
