Michael Weiss is an associate with King & Spalding’s Tort Litigation and Environmental Law Practice Group, where he represents corporations and nonprofit organizations in high-exposure product liability cases and other litigation. In recent years, Mr. Weiss has taken a leadership role in defending members of the window covering industry in lawsuits around the country alleging strangulation on window blinds cords, including defending several clients in a purported nationwide class action in Illinois. He has developed particular expertise helping manufacturers and retailers comply with government regulatory agencies and how that interaction can affect tort liability. Other major areas of focus include defense of automotive, asbestos, tobacco, and medical device cases, as well as invasion of privacy and concealment of evidence issues. Mr. Weiss is currently involved in numerous matters throughout the United States, and has most recently taken an active role in cases pending in Georgia, Alabama, New Jersey, Alaska, Maryland, Missouri, Mississippi, and Illinois. Closer to home, he is co-chair of the Georgia Immigration and Asylum Network and is active in the Anti-Defamation League.

Mr. Weiss’s recent experience includes:

  • Represented a Fortune 50 corporation in litigation involving allegations of discovery fraud.


  • Defended a major tobacco company in several complex product liability and class action cases across the country.


  • Played a primary role in leading a joint defense group of manufacturers, importers, and retailers facing product liability and consumer fraud litigation, as well as representing individual members in dealings with government regulatory agencies.


  • Represented a number of major retailers, importers, and manufacturers in a nationwide consumer class action in Madison County, Illinois regarding alleged defects in window coverings, including winning dismissal for several clients on motion.


  • Served on national motions counsel team for a consortium of automotive manufacturers in asbestos litigation.


  • Worked with state and federal transportation agencies to alter the route of a proposed $200 million highway.

A magna cum laude graduate of Syracuse University, Mr. Weiss received his law degree with honors from Emory University in 2003, where he was Executive Articles Editor of the Emory Law Review and a Robert W. Woodruff Fellow. Mr. Weiss is admitted to practice in all the state courts in Georgia as well as in the United States District Court for the Northern District and Middle District of Georgia. He is a member of the American Bar Association and the Atlanta Bar Association.
