John Wallace is a senior counsel concentrating in trusts and estates. He has practiced law in Atlanta for 45 years, 43 of which with King & Spalding. He is a graduate of Princeton University and Harvard Law School.
Mr. Wallace has been a frequent lecturer and panel member at many state and national tax institutes, conferences and other continuing education programs. He served as an adjunct professor at Emory University Law School between 1977 and 1987, teaching the Advanced Estate Planning course in the Graduate Tax Program.
His most recent publications include: "Selected Post-Death Problems of Partnerships and Partners," 1981 Southern California Tax Institute; "Estate Tax Deferral: Does Postponement Produce Panacea or Perplexity," 1982 Miami Estate Planning Institute; and "Now You See It, Now You Don't—Valuation Conundrums in Estate Planning," 1990 Miami Estate Planning Institute; and A View Through a Glass Darkly: The Impact of Transfer Tax Repeal on Trustsand Estates Lawyers, 2001 Annual Joseph Trachtman Memorial Lecture (27 ACTEC Journal 6, 2001).
Mr. Wallace is a Past President of The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and Past Chair of the Section of Real Property, Probate and Trust Law of the American Bar Association. He is a member of the International Academy of Estate and Trust Law, the American College of Tax Counsel, the American Law Institute and the American Bar Foundation. Mr. Wallace is a Past Chairman of the Fiduciary Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia and a Past President of both the Southern Pension Conference and the Atlanta Estate Planning Council, Inc.
Mr. Wallace currently serves on the Board of Trustees of Morehouse College, Southern Catholic College, Georgia Eye Bank, Inc., all of which are located in the Metro Atlanta area, and The Georgia Historical Society, located in Savannah. He previously served on the Board of Trustees of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra League, Fernbank Museum of Natural History, Piedmont Healthcare, Inc., and The Piedmont Clinic, all in Atlanta, as well as The Loomis Chaffee School, Windsor Connecticut, and The Westover School in Middlebury, Connecticut.
