Dawn Jones is a senior attorney in King & Spalding’s Tort and Environmental Practice Group.  An ICU registered nurse by training, with more than a decade of critical care nursing experience, Ms. Jones applies her medical training and background to defend manufacturers of pharmaceutical products and consumer goods in product liability lawsuits.

Prior to joining King & Spalding, Ms. Jones served as an Associate General Counsel for the Grady Health System, the largest non-profit, public hospital system in the state of Georgia that includes Grady Memorial Hospital, a hospital for children, a nursing home, numerous outpatient clinics, and several doctors offices, engaging more than 5800 employees.  In that position, Ms. Jones actively defended the Grady Health System in a range of litigation, including medical and nursing malpractice lawsuits and employment cases, and provided regular counsel and advice to administration and direct care givers concerning risk management, regulatory, and patient care issues. She participated on several standing and ad hoc hospital committees, initiating and revising system-wide policies, procedures and practices in collaborative, multi-disciplinary settings.

Ms. Jones’ recent legal experience includes:

• Defending a major pharmaceutical company involved in more than 1000 individual lawsuits. The lawsuits alleged that a scheduled pharmaceutical product did not work as prescribed and that patients became addicted to the product as a result of an alleged failure to warn and overly aggressive marketing.
  
  
• Developing national and local expert witnesses in various disciplines and practice areas throughout the United States to assist in defense of product liability, personal injury, and wrongful death claims and lawsuits brought against several major clients of the firm.
  
  
• Defending a major pharmaceutical company against numerous individual lawsuits alleging birth defects in children born to mothers who took the pharmaceutical product during pregnancy.
  
  
• Developing and implementing, in collaboration with cross-team efforts, alternate medical causation and other defenses of major pharmaceutical clients in hundreds of lawsuits throughout the United States.
  
  
• Defending major automobile manufacturers involved in asbestos litigation involving several thousands of lawsuits across the United States.
