23 Jan 2013
ATLANTA, January 23, 2013 Dawn M. Jones, a senior attorney in the tort and environment litigation practice of King & Spalding, in Atlanta, is the recipient of the A.T. Walden Legacy Award of the Gate City Bar Association, presented for outstanding contributions to the community and the legal profession and community.

The award is named in honor of A.T. Walden, who, in 1964, became the first African-American judge in the state of Georgia since the post-Civil War Reconstruction era. Walden also was the founder of the Gate City Bar Association.

Jones, an intensive-care-unit registered nurse by training, with more than a decade of critical care nursing experience, applies her medical training and background in her legal practice to defend manufacturers of pharmaceutical products and consumer goods in product liability lawsuits. Prior to joining King & Spalding, she was an associate general counsel for the Grady Health System, the largest non-profit, public hospital system in the state of Georgia. She received a J.D. degree from Georgia State University College of law, an M.S. degree from Georgetown University and a B.S. degree from University of Virginia.

The Gate City Bar Association, established in 1948, is the oldest African-American bar association in the state of Georgia. It has approximately 500 members and is an affiliate chapter of the National Bar Association, the nation’s oldest and largest national association of predominantly African-American lawyers and judges.
