HOUSTON, July 16, 2007 -- King & Spalding, a leading international law firm, has received the Law Firm Diversity Recognition Award from Chevron Corporation for its commitment to promoting diversity in the legal field. The award was presented on June 22, 2007 and was accepted by King & Spalding's Carol Wood, head of the firm's Houston Litigation Practice Group.
King & Spalding was one of three firms (and the only AmLaw 100 firm) honored for diversity at the event. Award recipients were selected by Chevron's Law Function Diversity Council and approved by the company's Law Function Executive Committee. As part of the award, the Chevron Law Department will donate $5,000 to a charitable organization of each honoree's choosing. King & Spalding has designated the Houston Bar Association's Minorities in the Legal Profession Committee as the recipient of its Chevron contribution. King & Spalding was instrumental in starting the HBA's Minority Law Student Writing Program and the Chevron contribution will supplement King & Spalding's financial contributions to that program.
King & Spalding has a long tradition of promoting greater diversity within the firm and throughout the legal profession. The firm was recently recognized by Multicultural Law Magazine among its Top 100 Law Firms for Diversity, Top 50 Law Firms for Partners, Top 100 Law Firms for Women and Top 25 Law Firms for African-Americans.
