Harold Franklin to Receive Gate City Bar Association Lawyer Award

ATLANTA, February 9, 2012 – Harold E. Franklin, Jr., a partner in the product liability practice of King & Spalding, in Atlanta, has been selected as the recipient of the A.T. Walden Outstanding Lawyer Award of the Gate City Bar Association for his ongoing service to the bar association, legal profession and community. The award will be presented during the Gate City Bar Association’s annual black history program at the State Bar of Georgia on February 21.

The award is named in honor of A.T. Walden, who, in 1964, became the first African-American judge in the state of Georgia since the post-Civil War Reconstruction era. Walden also was the founder of the Gate City Bar Association.

Franklin focuses on complex and high-stakes product liability litigation. He has served as counsel for a number of the largest automotive, pharmaceutical, beverage and package delivery companies and has been actively involved in matters throughout the continental United States and abroad. He also has served as in-house counsel (on loan from King & Spalding) for General Motors Corporation. Franklin has utilized his fluency in Spanish in his law practice in matters in Puerto Rico, Europe and South America. He received a J.D. degree from Georgia State University School of Law and a B.A. degree from Emory University. Franklin is a past president of the Gate City Bar Association.

The Gate City Bar Association, established in 1948, is the oldest African-American bar association in the state of Georgia. It has approximately 450 members and is an affiliate chapter of the National Bar Association, the nation’s oldest and largest national association of predominantly African-American lawyers and judges.
