King & Spalding Among Top U.S. Law Firms for Diversity According to New Survey by MultiCultural Law Magazine

09 May 2011
ATLANTA, May 9, 2011 – For the seventh straight year King & Spalding earned high marks in MultiCultural Law magazine's list of "Top Law Firms for Diversity." King & Spalding ranked 11th among the 2011 top 25 law firms for African-Americans, 19th among the top 100 firms for women and 67th among the top 100 firms for diversity overall.

MultiCultural Law magazine addresses diversity in the legal profession and focuses on information that is valuable to improving the careers of minority and women lawyers.

“Understanding that everyone in the firm benefits from our diversity mission, we encourage all of our lawyers to participate in activities that promote diversity within the legal profession,” said Samuel M. Matchett, a partner with King & Spalding and chairman of the firm’s diversity committee. “We are proud our efforts are recognized, and we will continue to strive to improve the diversity-related programs and resources we offer not just to our own lawyers but to our clients and the legal community as well.”

King & Spalding’s diversity committee, which includes firm leaders, directs action to advance diversity both within the firm and in the legal profession as a whole, including increasing the number of women and minorities hired, providing diversity training to the firm’s lawyers and committing funds to a minority scholarship program. King & Spalding sponsored 50 external diversity-related programs and events in 2010 and 14 of its lawyers held leadership roles in diversity-related organizations.

In addition, the firm’s 2010 summer associate class included the fourth group of recipients of the annual King & Spalding Diversity Fellowship, which is open to all second-year law students from ethnically or culturally diverse backgrounds who show promise of contributing meaningfully to the diversity of the legal community. Each recipient receives a $10,000 stipend and a summer associate clerkship in one of the firm’s U.S. offices.
